Christmas has come early for over 6,600 factored homeowners across the city who are set to receive a share of a one-off energy efficiency payment, thanks to Glasgow Housing Association (Management) Ltd (GHAM).
The grant of up to £311 per home was awarded by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) because the overcladding insulation work completed on owners' properties by GHA has made the houses more energy efficient and helped the fuel company meet its Government targets to cut energy consumption.
GHA provides a comprehensive factoring service to 26,500 owners through its subsidiary company – GHA Management Ltd - who completed the application process on behalf of its customers since the homeowners would not have been able to access the grant themselves.
GHAM is now passing on the funds received from SSE to all accounts where homeowners meet the rebate's criteria. All eligible owners will receive a cheque from GHA over the next few weeks.
The criteria set out by SSE for the one-off grant payment includes properties which have been overclad since 1 April 2005 and where work was completed up to 31 March 2008.
It is estimated that 4456 homeowners will receive the grant of £311. In addition, over 2,000 homeowners who received a grant of up to 100% from Glasgow City Council to help towards overcladding costs on their property will receive varying sums of money, depending on the administration and recording charge levied by the council and the level of improvement grant the owner originally received.
