Spring can't come early enough for the pupils at Islay High School on the Island of Islay, thanks to a shed size donation from the Co-perative and Scottish fitout and maintenance specialists Morris & Spottiswood.
Morris & Spottiswood, a leading regional provider of fitout and maintenance services to the retail, banking, commercial, leisure, education and healthcare sectors, is behind the new warehouse extension to the Bowmore Co-operative food store in Islay which was completed in November.
As part of the project, a temporary unit was required on-site for the storage of construction materials and this has been donated by The Co-operative and Morris & Spottiswood, to Islay High School for use as a potting shed for their Rural Skills students.
Freddie Bell, a teacher at Islay High School says the donation will ensure the sustainability of important skills and vocational experiences which have been introduced to the curriculum in the last three years.
"As part of our Schools of Ambition programme, we have been running a number of vocational courses which have helped the pupils in a variety of courses such as hospitality, hairdressing, construction, and rural studies including horticulture.
"Thanks to the generosity of both organisations, the storage unit is being dismantled and relocated to the school. Come the Spring, our construction pupils will therefore have the opportunity of putting their new found skills into practice in re-assembling the unit, which will provide a workshop area for their tools, a much needed potting shed for our horticulture students and a multi-functional new workspace for our other vocational students."
Morris & Spottiswood’s Operations Manager Steven McAuley said: "The wider local community impact is always considered as part of any project Morris & Spottiswood undertake and we strive to ensure we deliver a satisfactory and positive experience both for the client and the neighbouring community.
"We were therefore delighted to be able to assist, in partnership with The Scottish Co-operative, Islay High School, and make a long term contribution that the pupils will enjoy the benefits of."
