New RICS Scotland Chairman

Residential surveyor Jim Gibson has been appointed to the post of Chairman of RICS Scotland.

As Chairman he will work to promote RICS Scotland across the country representing around 10,000 members. Jim replaces outgoing Chairman, planning expert John Duff.

Jim is Managing Director of Harvey, Donaldson & Gibson, the Scottish subsidiary of Countrywide Surveyors, the UK's largest provider of residential surveying and valuation services, where he has worked since 1983.

Having spent the last two years as Vice Chairman of RICS Scotland, he has had a good insight in to the organisation and the requirements of the role. Prior to taking on the role of Vice Chairman he held the position of Head of the Residential Property Professional Group.

Commenting on his new post, Jim said: "Being elected as Chairman of RICS Scotland is a great honour. We face many challenges in the industry at present and as Chairman I will work closely with RICS Scotland to make every effort to support my fellow professionals through this period.

"From my perspective as a residential surveyor, we will look to support any developments which might help to kick start the housing market. The Home Report is also something I hope will continue to have a positive impact on the market."

Acting as an ambassador for chartered surveyors, Jim will lead the organisation's key decision-making committee, the Scottish Council, and attend the RICS' worldwide committee Governing Council.

He will also continue with the Chairman's roadshow events, travelling to meet members across Scotland to learn more about the land, property and construction issues affecting their work and area.

RICS Scotland Director, Graeme Hartley, added: "Jim has had a distinguished career in surveying and we look forward to RICS Scotland being able to benefit from his experience and expertise. He is a very well respected figure in the industry, especially residential surveying, and we know his far reaching experience will stand him in good stead to take on this new challenge."
