Aberdeenshire-based biomass company - Grampian Heat and Power (GHP) - has been inundated with firm inquiries from commercial organisations across the UK following participation in the All-Energy '09 renewable energy exhibition and conference in Aberdeen.
Andy Malcolm, managing director of the Portlethen-based company said: "We were astonished by the number of potential customers who visited our stand at All-Energy '09. And these were not people just taking a casual interest in our products - they very much knew what they were seeking. We had literally hundreds of visitors over the two days of the show.
"All-Energy '09 has produced more than 100 firm leads for us to follow-up with prospective new customers across the UK and we will be travelling far and wide over the next few months."
GHP has just won two new contracts in North-east Scotland. It is to supply a wood fuel heating system for the UK headquarters and factory at Inverurie of Scotframe Timber Engineering, one of the country's most successful timber frame manufacturers. The new heating system will use discarded material from the timber-making process to power the system.
GHP will also provide a showroom installation for Puffin Pellets at Boyndie, Banff, where a new £2m wood pellet manufacturing plant is being developed. Puffin Pellets is a joint venture between Insch-based businessman Bryan Harper and former Inverurie paper mill owner Thomas Tait. The project has already created nine jobs, with the possibility of another three by the end of this year as production increases.
GHP is one of the first installers in Scotland to be registered under the pioneering Micro-generation Certification Scheme launched by the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. The department's strategy is to raise awareness of micro-generation technologies and the role they can play in reducing carbon emissions and energy bills.
